GETTING STARTED
Download the client from teamspeak.com, if you're not sure which version it's probably the 32 bit windows one. Follow the installation instructions (you can find a detailed description of the installation process here).
You probably want to use push-to-talk, so the rest of us won't have to enjoy your wife and kids bashing each other's brains in
Once you're set click on Bookmarks -> Bookmarks -> Add bookmark, use the address / port number at the top of this post. Click OK. Now you only have to select the OAP server from that pulldown menu to connect.
OAP Clan Members: Find me on TS so I can add you to the OAP clan member or usergroup. Alternatively send me a pm here on the forum, and I'll grab your user ID from the TS3 logs.
FIREWALL
TS3 should work out of the box. Direct quote from the TS3 FAQ:Which ports does the client use?
The TeamSpeak 2 client uses RANDOM ports from the whole 1024-65535 range for source port and sends to port 8767 (UDP) unless indicated otherwise.
The client doesn't usually require any configuration of routers or firewalls. Do NOT setup your router to do port-forwarding or similar, as this is only needed when running the server.
ETIQUETTE
In case you *did* manage to get yourself banned, feel free to start a public apology thread and we'll see where we go from there. Alternatively there's the more discrete queries forum up top, but do remember our teamspeak server is first and foremost for the use and enjoyment of our Clan Members
BACKING UP your TS3 identity
TS3 works different from TS2 in that your access isn't just granted based on a password. TS3 generates a unique identity when it's installed, which has to be added manually to our TS3 server to grant you additional access. This identity will get wiped if you reinstall windows, so it's important to make a backup!
Start teamspeak, click on the settings menu and then on identities (or press CTRL-I to take you there directly):
You'll now see a list of all your TS3 identities. As you can see I have a couple of test identities as well, you'll most likely just have the 'default' one.
Select the identity you want to back up, and click on Export. Acknowledge the warning (remember, this file can give someone else your access so don't give it to anyone) and save it somewhere safe - i.e. a different hard drive or even better, a USB drive or DVD. That's it.
Program dir: C:\Program Files\TeamSpeak 3 Client
Configuration dir: C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application Data\TS3Client (WinXP)
Note: Newer TS3 client installers will ask you where you want to store your TS3 data. If you want to keep everything together (easier backups and portability), choose the TS3 dir instead of documents and settings.
If you have an automatic backup system in place (like Fbackup for example), You can add the configuration dir to it, to automatically copy any TS3 identities and settings. If multiple people share your computer and you absolutely do not want them to access your TS3 settings, use the default setup though.
RESTORING your TS3 identity
Go to the same menu as described above, and import your ini with 'Import'. If you already have a 'default' identity that you want to keep, make sure you back it up and/or rename it first.
CUSTOMISATION
- You won't be able to see people present in other channels until you subscribe to those. Right click on the server name at the top of the tree (but not the tab name) and select 'subscribe to all channels'. If you do this, do read the next tip as well though.
- As with TS2 you'll hear loads of voice notifications by default. And as with TS2 you can simply disable them: Settings -> Options -> Notifications -> 'Sounds Deactivated' in the pulldown menu. Done!
- TS3 comes with background noise suppression and echo reduction. Go to the Tools menu -> Options -> Capture
Tick 'Echo reduction' and 'Advanced Options', then tick 'Remove background noise'.
It's not quite a magic bullet that turns bad microphones into studio recording equipment, but it may improve your broadcasting quality just a bit
- TS3 comes with an advanced plugin for the G15 keyboard, which doesn't just do the regular stuff (i.e. show who's talking, chan info and mute speakers/mic) but also allows you to change channels and do basic admin stuff without minimising your game!
Enable it here: Settings -> Plugins -> tick 'G15 Keyboard LCD display'.
That's it for now. It's still a beta and the settings screen suggests there's more in store with subsequent versions, so anything new and interesting will be added here![]()
